The Stissing House Restaurant & Tavern

stissing-houseI remember when I first heard the former owners of the famed, Provence bistro in New York City were taking over the Stissing House in Pine Plains…I was beside myself with anticipation and excitement.   Could it have been only  four years ago?

Since that time, owners Patricia & Chef Michel Jean and the Stissing House have become my friends as well as an integral part of Pine Plains and the entire Hudson Valley restaurant scene.

The New York Times even raved: “The Mushrooms Alone are Worth the Drive.   The main dining room, with its pine-green draperies, low, beamed ceiling and hodgepodge of wooden tables, could pass for a pub in the Cotswolds. Paintings of the Hudson River grace the entry, and glowing coals in the wood oven seem to warm the entire premises. A charming rabbit warren of ancillary rooms allows for a large number of diners while preserving intimacy.”

We have always been big supporters of the Stissing House so we are especially pleased that our Pine Plains neighbor is  now one of our official Hammertown Choices.

Next time you’re shopping at the Barn do make a point of dropping into the Tavern for a quick bite and a glass of wine.  Tell them Hammertown sent you!
