Hammertown Rhinebeck Gallery

Opening Reception

5:30 to 7:00 pm

(Exhibit will run from September 9 – November 9, 2011)

Hammertown Rhinebeck is pleased to present a fall exhibition of monoprints by painter Sally Brody from September 9 – November 9, 2011.  The prints were created in the Ancram studio of painter/printmaker Steven Sorman. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, September 24 from 5:30-7 p.m.

Sally Brody’s botanical and still life prints are vibrant with color.  Steven Sorman notes:

‘There is something both odd and wonderful about monotype. It seems odd to paint on one surface only to move it to another. The image, however, does not arrive at it’s new venue as a verbatim translation.  As weather changes from place to place, you leave one atmosphere to enter another.  You can engineer many of the move’s aspects, yet much of where you end up just happens, as unpredictably as the weather.  A few years ago Sally expressed an interest in water media based monotype and I began working with her.  This has been a joyful enterprise that does translate. You can see it.”

Born in Washington D.C., Sally has been painting professionally most of her life. She graduated from Smith College, studied painting and print making at The Art Students League, The Brooklyn Museum, The Pratt Graphic Center and the New York Institute of Technology.

In her professional career she has had solo shows at the Atlantic Gallery, The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, The Garrison Art Center, Home Box Office, etc., and appeared in numerous group shows.

She has designed tapestries for IBM and other commercial clients. Her work is in the collections of corporate and private collectors.

Sally lives in Brooklyn and Ancramdale New York.
