It’s been — no it can’t be — yes it is, 28 years since The Gatehouse opened at Hammertown. The adorable little house as you enter the drive into Hammertown Barn…that’s our little Gatehouse. It’s a house-full of Hammertown history but sadly, since a 2010 update, the interior has been a bit neglected. In its heyday it was a beautifully decorated home we opened up to our customers. It was the beginning of Hammertown Home…a decorated cottage that gave our customers design and other ideas of aspiration.
It was where we started cooking classes, and at one time a real estate office for Paula Redmond. Olivia, a manager at Hammertown, remembers coming here as a child every Christmas to see it in Holiday splendor.
Recently, Wanda, Jessica and I decided it was time to bring it back to its full glory. There were structural things that had to be done anyway and I figured let’s do it now…it was time!
The Gatehouse has stood the test of time. With new paint and other minor changes, we will bring it back! The bones of the house and the choices I made 28 years ago and in the 2010 update still hold up.
The kitchen does not look dated, and the magnificent addition with cathedral ceiling, radiant brick heated floor, and staircase and balcony upstairs with two bedrooms and bath are still classic examples of modern country design and decorating at its very best.
It’s what makes Hammertown special and we’ve been doing it for over 33 years!
We are cleaning it out, painting, and redecorating this darling little home. We’ve got a lot going on, so be patient…the unveiling will happen! And, when done, and just perfect, we will have an opening celebration! Our hope is this will be just one more reason to come to the Barn and see what our design team can do and how Hammertown can inspire you for your own home. So…follow along with us in the transformation!
