This is an urgent plea for something near and dear to my heart…
In the heart of Ancram lies a beautiful 200-acre organic farm known as the Thompson-Finch Farm, a Centennial Farm in operation since 1859. Thompson-Finch Farm is a signature farm, with one of the largest and oldest organic you-pick strawberry operations in the northeast. The farm balances productivity with environmental stewardship. The management techniques utilized on the farm have protected the Roeliff-Jansen Kill, wetlands, and other important habitats from harm.
However, the future of Thompson-Finch Farm is at stake. Although the Thompson-Finch has temporarily secured the property with a loan from Equity Trust, the farm is at a crucial moment when it will either be permanently protected as an agricultural resource or sold. Financial support from individuals like you is critical to help us save Thompson-Finch Farm. The Columbia Land Conservancy, Equity Trust, and the farmers have joined together to ensure that this property will remain a farm forever. Scenic Hudson Land Trust and Dutchess Land Conservancy are also project partners. Read more details here about this project.
THIS IS PERSONAL FOR ME AND I’M SURE FOR MANY OF YOU
For over three decades, my dear friends Marnie and Don MacLean have farmed the land of Thompson Finch Farm though they didn’t actually own the land. Their farm is known to many Hammertown customers (and Martha Stewart) for growing the most amazing organic strawberries and blueberries. For many of us, strawberry picking at Thompson Finch has become a yearly pilgrimage. I have such fond memories of picking strawberries with my granddaughters and then being rewarded with a pie or jam. It’s a wonderful tradition that continues. In fact, the last time I was at Thompson Finch I saw three generations of strawberry pickers. We cannot let this tradition die.

That is why Hammertown wants to help the MacLeans and the CLC, hold onto this farm and keep it as farmland forever so we are sponsoring a Matching Donation Pledge drive THIS WEEK.
From now through the summer, Hammertown will match your pledge dollar for dollar up to $15,000. That means, if we’re successful, together we will be raising $30,000!!!
