You’re HOW old?!

After a certain age, you stop bringing attention to the anniversary of your birth,
but this is a “birthday” I’m happy to shout from Hammertown Barn’s rooftop!

One of the wonderful things about anniversaries is that it compels you to look back at the journey you’ve taken over the years.  Some of the memories are good…others, not so much…but they all add up to where we are today.  In the realm of style and design, there are some images we look back on (like an old hairstyle or outfit) that are almost embarrassing, though at the time it was the epitome of chic!

The same is true of Hammertown Barn.  Our look may have changed over the last 30 years but it has always reflected the best design standards of the time.  That is what we’ve done and that is what we will continue to do.

In thinking about this big anniversary, I’ve been looking back through old photographs and souvenirs and realized the “creative seed” gets planted early in one’s life, and personal passions are revealed again and again.

These creative seeds were always a part of me.  From my teaching days and the killer bulletin boards and worksheets (I’m dating myself, aren’t I?) I created in my classroom to sewing Little House on the Prairie dresses for Dana or making a patchwork vest for Gregg and crewel and needlepoint pillows for my house.

One of my earliest creative projects was a Chocolate Engagement Calendar I did with two friends from New Jersey in 1983.  We “three housewives and mothers” successfully wrote and self-published a calendar which sold thousands of copies.  Here are a few images of it:

Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing more of Hammertown throughout-the-decades and we’re inviting you to join in.  Do you have stories about Hammertown or photographs of you and/or your own home over the last 30 years that show your “STYLE EVOLUTION”?  If so, we’d love to share them on our website.  Just email your images/stories to me at

In the meantime, mark your calendars NOW and stay tuned for more details about our big celebration on August 22nd.
