When I was growing up grandmothers were expected to babysit once in awhile; bake cookies and pies; host Thanksgiving dinner and give unsolicited advice about how to rear your children and take care of your husband. Grandmas just seemed “older” back then than they do today…and they definitely seemed older than Joan Osofsky! Who knew back then Grandmas could be COOL?
Like the indefatigable Hillary Clinton, Joan has more energy than anyone I know. She’s incredibly curious and always embraces the “new”…in technology, design, art, theatre, music, television … you name it, she already knows about it or wants to know more. So, when she told me she was going to take her granddaughter Lillie and her friend, Hollis, to New York City last weekend, I knew it wouldn’t be a typical “outing with Grandma”. For starters… it’s Gaga…not Grandma.
Here’s Joan’s photo journal of their NYC adventure.

I had an awesome time with my grandma. She really knows what kids might like and even took us to the fabric store from Project Runway, one of my favorite tv shows. The art exhibit was super 3d so it was fun for me as a kid. There were lots of sculptures that had to do with everyday things made to look super cool. My favorite was a giant mound of Playdough. It was way bigger than I am. Gaga also took us to Tipsy Parson, a cool restaurant that was decorated like someone’s house and felt really cozy. The food was delish! I had an awesome time and can’t wait to go again. — Lillie
AND I HAD AN AWESOME TIME TOO!
Thanks Lillie and Hollis for a wonderful weekend in New York.
