Farmer’s Wife Reopens with a new look and some new tastes!

As most of our readers know, Dorcas Sommerhoff, longtime owner and proprietor of The Farmer’s Wife, recently decided to “throw in the spatula” after 20+ years in the catering business.  She and her husband Chris are off to warmer climes to spend some well-deserved time relaxing in the sun on a boat!

The good news is who is picking up her spatula: her step-daughter, Emilie and her husband, the very talented Chef Job Yacubian.

I stopped by the other day to have a look and offer my congratulations.  The first thing you notice when you enter the freshened space is that it seems larger and brighter than before, and there’s a welcome addition of a blackboard above the food case listing food items and specials.

I asked Job if the menu was changing a lot:

We don’t want to change things too much because so much of what The Farmer’s Wife was worked but we are adding new things to our menu.  Comfort food with a twist and using all the wonderful fresh ingredients we can get right here in our neighborhood.

I am so excited for Emilie and Job. This young couple bring their spirit, enthusiasm and amazing skills to this wonderful establishment. It’s another “foodie” destination near to our Hammertown Pine Plains store. Whether stopping for breakfast or lunch (click here for menus), or picking up delicious prepared food to take home, this is a feel-good kind of hometown place.  Real, authentic and comforting on all levels.

Job’s culinary skills never cease to amaze me.  He can take the simplest of meals and make it supurb. For instance, the Salad Nicoise is better than what I had in Provence.  I also sampled a wonderful French onion soup that he’s promising to put on the menu.

And remember, The Farmer’s Wife will still be offering exceptional catering–from small parties to weddings.
