New President…New Style…and a New Designer for the White House. It IS all about “Change”.
This past Tuesday the Obama transition team announced that Michelle Obama has chosen California designer, Michael Smith, as the White House decorator. Smith has decorated the homes of such celebrities as Cindy Crawford, Dustin Hoffman and Steven Spielberg, according to Domino magazine.
We’ll all be watching to see what “touch” Michelle adds to the East Wing. She has expressed her desire to create a living space where their family feels comfortable, happy and settled. According to Michelle, “Michael shares my vision for creating a family-friendly feel to our new home and incorporating some new perspectives from some of America’s greatest artists and designers.”
An amusing side note: Before being tapped by the Obamas, Smith had once actually expressed his desire to redo the White House and went on to say that he was “sick” of the paint color. One can only assume he meant the INTERIOR paint color…there is a limit on how much change the public will accept 🙂
“I am delighted to work with the Obamas as they bring their own energy and style to the residence at The White House,” said Mr. Smith. “The family’s casual style, their interest in bringing 20th Century American artists to the forefront and utilizing affordable brands and products will serve as our guiding principles as we make the residence feel like their home.”
Says Smith, “There’s nothing more tragic than rooms that look as if the furniture all arrived on the same day, in the same truck.”
All of this resounds with Hammertown because that is what we strive to do every day — help our customers design their homes where THEY feel comfortable. Creating spaces that have a modern twist along with a classic feel has become our trademark. So, I am also impressed that Smith will be focusing on affordable brands and products which will serve as guiding principles in the design and decorating process.
