Hammertown…In Pursuit of the Common Good

I just finished reading IN PURSUIT OF THE COMMON GOOD… Twenth-five Years of Improving the World, One Bottle of Salad Dressing at a Time, by Paul Newman and A.E. Hotchner. The story of how Paul Newman and his friend parlayed a food company into a multi-million dollar company that gives all its profits to the less fortunate was totally inspiring.

It made me realize that what is most important to me about Hammertown and the brand I’ve helped create, is that we have always tried to give back to our local communities.  We raise money at our tent sales for the Rescue Squad and Fire Department, the library, and the Good Dog Foundation.  One of my favorite fund-raising events goes to support the Berkshire Taconic Foundation. This is so important to me and I hope you realize by shopping at our independent, local stores you are supporting a company that year in, year out, gives back in so many ways. WE ALWAYS HAVE, AND WE ALWAYS WILL.

So, as we begin our Third Annual SHOP FOR A CAUSE event this Saturday through November 23rd, I urge all of you to come shop at Hammertown and help us raise money for the Berkshire Taconic Foundation’s Fund for Columbia County and the Dutchess County fund. The money we raise goes right back into our local communities to help people.  And, with the difficult times ahead, our communities need help and this fund is there for them…from social workers who work with the elderly, to library programs, programs for abused women, and so many other worthy projects. Last year we helped raise over $35,000 for the foundation with over $9,000 coming from 10% of sales from all three Hammertown stores.

Visit berkshiretaconic.org and look at our silent auction items (Tickets for the Daily Show, and Saturday Night Live, Lunch for 10 at Bunny Williams home, Wine Tasting, and much more), and start SHOPPING FOR A CAUSE this Saturday November 15th through Sunday, November 23rd.
